Aboveground Biomass Stock and Change 10 m

Chloris — version 0.0 (2024)

Description

This dataset quantifies the aboveground biomass change (Mg/ha/y), aboveground biomass stock (Mg/ha), forest cover, forest area degradation, forest area gain, and forest area loss at 10 m spatial resolution, with global coverage annually from 2017 onwards. Data includes pixel-level variable uncertainties (± standard error).

Usage notes

New time points are delivered in Q1 for the previous year. Region-specific models are available for the Continental US, Africa, SE Asia, S Asia, temperate Asia, Europe, and Australia.

Variables

aboveground_biomass_change

Typefloat32UnitsMg/ha/y

Description

The annual change in aboveground biomass stock variable. Data is generated using a Bayesian time series approach applied to aboveground biomass pixel values.

Usage notes

Always missing for the first year of the period of interest.

aboveground_biomass_change_standard_error

Typefloat32UnitsMg/ha/y

Description

Standard error for the aboveground biomass change variable.

Usage notes

See aboveground biomass change variable.

aboveground_biomass_stock

Typeuint16UnitsMg/ha

Description

The total biomass stock of dry matter in live woody vegetation on a per hectare basis. Data is generated using machine learning models trained on field plot data and a variety of spaceborne remote sensing datasets.

Usage notes

Calculations are restricted to live woody aboveground biomass. Values are calculated using custom allometric equations derived from full LiDAR-waveform data. Pixels displaying no statistically significant biomass change over the full temporal coverage are set to the median aboveground biomass value throughout.

aboveground_biomass_stock_standard_error

Typeuint16UnitsMg/ha

Description

Standard error for the aboveground biomass stock variable.

Usage notes

See aboveground biomass stock variable.

forest_area_degradation

Typefloat32

Description

Indicates whether a forest pixel has lost aboveground biomass stock since the previous measurement date.

Usage notes

Always missing for the first year of the period of interest. Degradation is defined as a statistically significant reduction in aboveground biomass stock variable. Forest is defined using the FAO definition of forest (i.e. surface area > 0.5 ha, tree height > 5 m, canopy cover > 10%).

IndexName
0No degradation
1Degradation

forest_area_gain

Typefloat32

Description

Indicates whether a non-forest pixel has become a forest since the previous measurement date.

Usage notes

Always missing for the first year of the period of interest. Forest is defined using the FAO definition of forest (i.e. surface area > 0.5 ha, tree height > 5 m, canopy cover > 10%).

IndexName
0No gain
1Gain

forest_area_loss

Typefloat32

Description

Indicates whether a pixel has become non-forest since the previous measurement date.

Usage notes

Always missing for the first year of the period of interest. Forest is defined using the FAO definition of forest (i.e. surface area > 0.5 ha, tree height > 5 m, canopy cover > 10%).

IndexName
0No loss
1Loss

forest_cover

Typefloat32

Description

Indicates whether a pixel is forest.

Usage notes

Forest is defined using the FAO definition of forest (i.e. surface area > 0.5 ha, tree height > 5 m, canopy cover > 10%).

IndexName
0Non-forest

Pricing

This dataset adds a new time point annually. A data request returns the full archive up to the most recent time point. Data acquisition costs are per hectare for the full archive:

VolumePrice
10 - 10,000 ha$0.50 / ha
10,000 - 50,000 ha$0.40 / ha after first 10,000 ha
50,000 - 75,000 ha$0.35 / ha after first 50,000 ha
