# Biomass Atlas

Sylvera — version 2.1

## Description

This dataset quantifies aboveground biomass density (Mg/ha) and forest canopy height (m) at 30 m spatial resolution, with global coverage annually from 2000 onwards. Pixel-level residual standard error is provided for both variables. Quality assurance layers describing gap filling, observation availability, and model calibration source are also included.

## Summary

- **ID:** db67c6ad-a7e3-4374-8dd5-50fc0c17cd74
- **Type:** Raster
- **CRS:** EPSG:4326
- **Spatial coverage:** Global
- **Spatial resolution:** 30 m
- **Temporal coverage:** 2000+
- **Temporal resolution:** Annual

## Usage notes

New time points are delivered in Q1 for the previous year. Spatial coverage is limited to land surfaces between 81.8°N and 81.8°S, excluding ice sheets. The dataset uses seven region-specific canopy height models and twenty biome-specific biomass models.

Quality assurance layers describing model calibration source, observation availability, and green period definition are time-invariant and are delivered without a time dimension.

Documentation for version 1.0 of this dataset is available in the resources section.

## Variables

### above_ground_biomass_density
- **Type:** float32
- **Units:** Mg/ha
- **NoData:** NaN
Aboveground biomass density of dry matter in live woody vegetation on a per hectare basis. Data is generated using biome-specific non-linear regression models calibrated on allometric-free multi-scale LiDAR or GEDI L4A allometric-derived biomass data to convert canopy height values into aboveground biomass.

### above_ground_biomass_density_residual_standard_error
- **Type:** float32
- **Units:** Mg/ha
- **NoData:** NaN
Residual standard error for above ground biomass density variable.

### above_ground_biomass_multiscale_lidar
- **Type:** int8
- **Units:** %
- **NoData:** -1
Percentage contribution that multi-scale LiDAR (MSL) based biomass models made to reported above ground biomass density variable.

### canopy_height
- **Type:** float32
- **Units:** m
- **NoData:** NaN
Canopy height of the 95th percentile of woody vegetation. Data is generated using region-specific machine learning models that predict GEDI canopy height data from a range of spaceborne remote sensing datasets.

### canopy_height_raw
- **Type:** float32
- **Units:** m
- **NoData:** NaN
Canopy height of the 95th percentile of woody vegetation, without post-processing applied.

### canopy_height_residual_standard_error

- **Units:** m
- **NoData:** NaN
Residual standard error for canopy height variable.

- **Type:** bool
- **NoData:** False
Binary mask indicating where data has been materialised for the dataset.

### end_day
- **Type:** int16
- **NoData:** -1
Day of year of the end of the green period, inclusive, which defines the temporal window of scenes that can contribute to the Landsat composites.

### first_observation
- **Type:** int8
- **NoData:** -1
Offset in years from 2000-01-01 to first observation considered in fitting the canopy height time series for a pixel.

### gap_type
- **Type:** int8
- **NoData:** -1

## Pricing

This dataset adds a new time point annually. A new subscription returns the full archive up to the most recent time point. Data acquisition costs are per hectare for the full archive:

| Volume | Price |
| --- | --- |
| GEDI-derived | $0.07 / ha |
| MSL-derived | $0.12 / ha |
